Uses of Ground Penetrating Radar

Ground Penetrating Radar technology can effectively be used for many applications. One of the most helpful applications is the ability to locate and distinguish subsurface features and utilities including cables, pipes, concrete reinforcements and underground storage tanks. Excavated areas, back-filled areas and other types of ground disturbances can readily be identified and mapped.

On a smaller spatial scale, Ground Penetrating Radar works extremely well at detecting and inspecting fractures and faults in building materials, roads and bridges. GPR has also successfully been employed in the investigation and characterization of subsurface and subsurface features in fields including environmental detection, surficial geology, forensics and archaeology. The following is a brief list of the more common uses of Ground Radar:

Utility Service Locating Ground Penetrating Radar is currently the only non-destructive technology able to locate both non-metallic as well as metallic subsurface utilities. It is ideally suited for locating utilities including water, sewer, gas, electric, telephone, cable and fiber-optic. By identifying the location and positioning of services before beginning construction and excavation, the possibility of costly damage as well as safety risks to workers is greatly reduced or eliminated.
